Play Spider Solitaire for Free Online

Spider Solitaire is one of the most popular and engaging card games, offering a unique challenge that tests your strategic thinking and provides hours of entertainment.

Spider Solitaire: Objective and Setup

Spider Solitaire is a card game designed for one player. It is played with two decks with a total of 104 cards. In every variation of the game, the goal is to clear the tableau by arranging the cards in descending order, forming eight complete sequences from King to Ace, and moving them to the foundation. At the beginning of each Spider Solitaire game, the tableau consists of ten columns with only the top cards face-up. By rearranging the cards within the columns, players can uncover the face-down cards, creating more opportunities to form consecutive sequences and eventually clear the tableau.

Free Spider Solitaire on Solitaire.net is available in multiple variations: 1 Suit (the easiest), 2 Suits (medium difficulty), and 4 Suits (the most challenging).

Spider Solitaire Rules

The rules of the online Spider Solitaire are simple:

  • At the start of any Spider Solitaire game, there are three key elements: the tableau, where the main gameplay takes place; the foundation, where complete sequences will be moved; and the stock, a pile that allows players to introduce new cards into the game.
  • The Spider Solitaire game begins with the cards being dealt into ten tableau columns. The first four columns contain six cards each, while the remaining six columns have five cards each. The remaining cards are placed in the stock pile, all face-down.
  • Only the top card in each column is face-up, while the others are face-down. Players can move cards between columns, creating sequences in descending order. Whenever you move a face-up card that had a face-down card right below it, the hidden card is turned face-up.
  • To build a sequence, players can place a top face-up card from any column onto another face-up card that is one point higher in value. For instance, you can place a 2 of any suit onto a 3 of any suit. Partially completed sequences can also be moved, but only if they consist of cards of the same suit (this is what makes 2-Suit and 4-Suit Spider Solitaire so challenging!) For example, if you have an incomplete sequence containing a 3, 2, and Ace of the same suit, you can place it onto a 4. Also, any card or incomplete sequence can be placed onto an empty column.
  • In Spider Solitaire, when no more moves are available on the tableau or the available moves are not satisfactory, players can introduce new cards into the game using the stock pile. This action adds 10 face-up cards to the tableau, one for each column. However, it's important to note that for the stock pile to be used, each column must have at least one card. If one or more columns are empty, the stock pile cannot be used.
  • Once a sequence of cards of the same suit is built, from King through Ace, it is moved to the foundation. The Spider Solitaire game is won when all the cards are moved to the foundation piles.
